World Ski & Snowboard Fest

We played a few shows in Whistler this weekend for the World Ski & Snowboard Fest. It was a total gong show but so much fun. Highlighted by a big jam on Saturday night with Z-Trip, Mat The Alien, Fort Knox Five, Vinyl Ritchie & Smalltown.

Big thanks to all our dj homies, and especially Ace Mackay-Smith who throws our favorite parties on the planet.

GO FLAMES!

Let's go dudes. Very important game tonight. Don't make me hate you/me/everything.

Programming note: the Smalltowns will be taking a break from their eastern tour with Shout Out Out Out Out this weekend to partake in the Telus World of Ski and Snowboard Festival in beautiful Whistler, BC.

If you're on the west coast this weekend, go there. Pretty much everyone I know will be.

Shout Out x4 vs. Smalltown Tour Starts Today

Hey - we're hitting the road with the Shout Outs. Come see us a one of these shows.

Kruder & Dorfmeister

I was browsing cyberspace this morning and came across the fact that K&D's first EP on G Stone Records came out in 1993. And I thought "That's a long fucking time ago!". These guys basically defined the downtempo genre. And undoubtedly had the genre's biggest selling album with their K&D Sessions record in 1996. That record also brought the remix to light as a respected art in the mainstream, around the same time Puffy claimed to have "invented the remix" these guys were releasing a retrospective compilation of theirs. So spark one up for downtempo and Kruder & Dorfmeister.

BOMB THE BASS - BUG POWDER DUST (K&D DUB)

Pacman

For people that aren't as much into reading things, watch this:

It's funny when he smashes into things - I can't stop watching it. Thanks to Jess for the link.

Eli Escobar interview

Great interview with Eli Escobar over at the TTL blog. Good read, classy dude. Have a look and learn why he likes Batman more than Superman.

BEYOND POSSESSION

The new Smalltown Romeo banner makes me think of Beyond Possession, the legendary Calgary thrash band from the 80s. Calgary noobs do your homework, Beyond Possession was one of the most important bands to come out of our fair city. They played super fast and tight and they always had great gory artwork (I think Pushead drew stuff for them?). If you pushed a skateboard in Calgary in the 80s, you knew about em. OK that's your history lesson, now check out the sick handdrawn aesthetics of these flyers.

Banffed

Joanna Magic aka Sausage Fangz took some great pics (VIEW THEM HERE) at our Banff show on Friday night. It was a glorious evening. Thanks to Jordan and all the Hoodoo staff, see you next time.

SPECTOR CONVICTED

Super influential, mentally unhinged Wall of Sound producer Phil Spector was convicted of second degree murder yesterday. Let's take a moment to celebrate the musical genius of this complete lunatic.

The Crystals - 'Da Doo Ron Ron Ron' (1963, #3)

The Ronettes - 'Be My Baby' (1963, #2)

Ike & Tina Turner - 'River Deep - Mountain High' (1966, #88)

George Harrison - 'My Sweet Lord' (1970, #1)

START THE NIGHT OFF RIGHT

Last Night we opened for the Bloody Beetroots and Steve Aoki.

Things got heavier later in the night but the first hour was pretty
smooth. Bloody Beetroots were relentless. Really well done.
Something about the shhhtick that just locks the people in. Anyhow
this is just part of 'our' set early in the night while people were arriving.
Enjoy the mix.

COUCHE TARD

"Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. (TSX: ATD.A) ("Couche-Tard" meaning "night owl," literally: "goes to bed late," in French) is the largest Canadian convenience store retailer, operating or franchising over 5,000 stores across Canada." - It's also a sweet mixtape done by our good mates from Spankrock. The re-release features an amazing video to accompany the mix, done by Canadians &/or.

HAPPY EASTER

SUMMERTIME

Finally some warm weather in this seemingly remote arctic bitch.

Let's celebrate with a CHUNE!:

HAI KARATE

In case you forgot, we play every Thursday at the Hifi Club in Calgary.

We used to do it at the famed Night Gallery for years, then moved to the Hifi in Jan 05.

Our good homie and awesome designer Rory Them Finest did a new poster series for us to celebrate the night and the fact it's been running since dinosaurs ruled the earth:

Hifi Club 4th Birthday

The Hifi's 4th birthday is this Saturday, April 4th. James Pants is coming with his band to do a full live set, as well as South Rakkas Crew, Jokers of the Scene, and Smalltown will be opening and closing.

Burlesque Design of Minnesota (our favorite design mates) did a limited screen printed poster for the show and we will be giving a bunch away at the club on Saturday. They also give a detailed description of the design process for our poster here.

Thanks for the last 4 years everybody.

See you Saturday!

ON SMASH!

Crocodile Rock

Haven't posted in a long minute, been suuuper busy smoking weed and watching videos of animals fighting on Youtube. Speaking of animals, this is my favorite song right now. Fuzzy garage pop out of Austin TX.

Crocodiles - I Wanna Kill

HILARIOUS BIRDS

I gotta pass along a couple links to a couple of blogs which make me laugh. They're both authored by hilarious birds name Sarah. Sarah F's blog is even dedicated to hilarious birds.

Sarah P used to come to my Friday night and lose her shit any time any Gwen Guthrie song got played. Weird.
Sarah P

Sarah F had a bleached-bloned undercut at one point. Also weird.

Read through both Definitely worth a look.

Lazy post, but whatever. Suck it. Here's a nice song:

Gloria Gaynor - Tease Me

Drums hit so hard. Vocal hook is so on point and infectious. Such a jam.
