Muppet Fans Do Awesome Things on the Internet

So... I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at midnight last night. My main goal, of course, was to see the trailer for The Muppets... but my hopes were shattered when the trailer was not included before the film at my local theater. Needless to say, disappointment doesn't begin to describe how I felt/feel... but then I got only and I started to feel a bit better. Why, you ask? Well... because Muppet fans are awesome. There's such a treasure trove of great, fan-created content on the web that I've been fortunate enough to have shared with me by Muppet fans. It never ceases to amaze me how talented Muppet fans are. I'm also really glad that they're willing to share said talent on the internet for everyone to see. So, while we wait for the Muppet trailer to hit YouTube, enjoy just some of the awesome Muppet fan things that hit the web recently.

Our new friend Ben Henry from The Baseball Card Blog emailed me last week with a link to his site where he features a bunch of customized baseball cards, including quite a few Muppet cards made by Travis Peterson. It's a really fun trip through America's pastime with Muppets on the iconic cards instead of baseball players. There's a lot of fun tid-bits Ben includes in his posts, so be sure to check out all of his Muppet cards for yourself! I especially like the Christopher Reeve card and the Scooter card, because it says "Snuffies" on it because that's a funny word.

Neil McNally from the website The Daily Deceased, which profiles notable persons daily who passed away on that date, emailed me yesterday with a link to the profile from May 16th which, of course, spotlighted Jim Henson. It's a nice little article and another way of remembering Jim 21 years later, which we should all do.

One very talented YouTube video maker took the time to edit together clips of Kermit and Piggy from the first three Muppet movies spliced over three songs including "I'm Gonna Always Love You" and music from the Beach Boys. The video is entitled "Warmth of the Next Love" and it's sweet, cute, and fun. Enjoy it!

Finally, our good friend and one of my personal favorite people, Dave Hulteen is now offering Custom Digital Puppet Illustration commissions. Essentially, Dave will draw you or someone you know as a puppet character with exagerated skin tones and features, much like the caricatures of myself, Joe Hennes, Ryan Roe, Steve Swanson, and Dave himself that you can see over at MuppetFans.com. Trust me when I say that these are awesome and make a fantastic profile picture for your Facebook, Twitter, or where ever you kids socialize nowadays. Just take a look at this side by side comparison of me and the Hulteen caricature of me. Uncanny, no? No go forth and patronize!

Muppet Madness Tournament 2011: FINAL ROUND!

Well, this is it, Muppet fans! After weeks of toiling and voting and campaigning and whatever else it is that we've been doing... the Final Round of this year's Muppet Madness Tournament is finally here! It's the matchup of the century between Super Grover and Statler and Waldorf--a matchup I've been predicting since Round 2! It's been a long, hard road for all of the contestants... but it all comes down to this. Will Super Grover crash into the winner's spot? Or will Statler and Waldorf heckle their way forward? Only time will tell...

Only until April 4th, actually, because that's when voting ends. But don't you worry, four days may not seem like a long time, but in actuality there are over 48 chances to vote! How is this possible you ask? Well, in the Final Round only, you can vote every two hours!! How crazy is that?! And believe me, it might be necessary. As of now there are only 35 votes separating the competitors. (Super Grover is winning, of course.) (Not that I'm picking favorites.)

So go! Vote! Now! Often! Again! Later! Oh, also... check out this GORGEOUS artwork from the one and only uber-talented demigod of Muppet fan art Dave Hulteen:

Steve Swanson of The MuppetCast, Joe Hennes and Ryan Roe of ToughPigs.com, Dave Hulteen, Jr., and myself, Ryan Dosier, are all beyond thrilled to announce a brand new collaborative website from the minds of the five of us. It is with this that we proudly present...

MuppetFans.com
The Best of the Muppet Online Fan Community
But what exactly IS MuppetFans.com? Good question! Here's the official information on this hugely exciting, brand new website:

MuppetFans.com was created to be THE online destination for Muppet news, information, and entertainment as provided by other Muppet fans. The online Muppet fanspace has grown considerably in recent years, and so with the work of several folks in the community, we hope you find everything on the site useful and fun!

As you can tell, MuppetFans.com was designed as the one and only place you'll need to find the best of the best of the Muppet fan community. MuppetFans.com will be updated daily with new articles from The Muppet Mindset and ToughPigs along with a weekly update for the new episode of The MuppetCast. The entire design and virtually all of the art you see on every page of the site was designed by Muppet fan artist extraordinaire and one of our favorite people, Dave Hulteen, Jr.!

Along with the exciting launch of MuppetFans.com, we are also declaring this week, March 6th-March 13th, "Change Your Profile Picture to a Muppet" week on Facebook! So join in the fun and celebrate the launch of MuppetFans.com by changing your own Facebook profile picture to your favorite Muppet character! We want to see Beakers everywhere--a Kermit on every wall, and a Gonzo in every Facebook Chat! Change your picture, tell your friends, and celebrate the launch of MuppetFans.com!

I can't tell you how excited and honored I am to be a part of this website. It means the world that Steve, Joe, Ryan, and Dave let me act as a fifth co-founder of MuppetFans.com, and I hope that together the five of us can continue to bring the Muppet fan world all the best information and fan content out there!

The Holiday Season Begins on The Muppet Mindset!

Greetings, Muppet fans! Guess what? It's December. I know! I can't believe it either! But you know what that means... it's time for The Muppet Mindset to get into the holiday spirit! I know I've already pulled out my Santa Swedish Chef action figure and my Kermit Claus statue (yes, that is the extent of decorating I do). So it's time to put on the final touches--an annual Christmas tradition (since last year), 'round these parts, a brand new holiday header designed by the one and only Dave Hulteen, Jr.! If you're reading this post in December, you see the header already! If not, here it is:

I absolutely love it. It's so simple, so classic, so wonderful. It's absolutely perfect, and I can't thank Dave enough for drawing it for us. It's the perfect way to highlight the holiday season here on The Muppet Mindset and I'm proud to feature it at the top of the site for the rest of the month!

Happy Holidays, Muppet fans! Let's start off the Christmas music, shall we? I'll be John Denver, you guys chime in as the Muppets... On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me, a partridge in a pear tree...
