Muppet Vinylmation Fan Art (and More!)

Today we have a really cool spotlight on a very talented Muppet fan artist, Mike Boon. His work is incredibly inspired, including his magnificent Muppet Alphabet piece and two different series of Muppet Vinylmation (the popular, characterized Disney figures available at Disney Parks and Disney Stores) personally designed as a fun project for Mike, but the fan response was so great that it really took off. So... we're extremely excited to present an exclusive first look at Mike's Muppet Vinylmation Series 4, which is premiering here on The Muppet Mindset. Mike and his work are amazing. Be sure to check out his blog, Muppet Mania as well. Enjoy it!

Mike Boon - I've always been a huge fan of the Muppets but I'm not ashamed to admit that my appreciation had dwindled over the last 10 years or so. Sure, I'd always catch the Muppets when they were on TV and readily grabbed any DVD when it was released but the lack of product based on the core characters from the original TV series mostly left me with only memories to focus on.

That is until Bohemian Rhapsody came out. The viral video really hit the nostalgia sweet spot and I started really taking in everything that was being written about and speculated on about the Muppets. And then, once I started seeing Muppet merchandise hitting the shelves (only a smattering of it, but still), all of a sudden my kids were getting Muppet shirts as gifts and my geek flag started to fly.

I've never considered myself an artist by any means, but I came upon the idea for the Muppet Alphabet one day. So I loaded my old Adobe Illustrator from 1998 (made me feel ancient) and thought I would try it out using some key characters first (P, B and Z). It was so much fun that it led to a full alphabet and I was really inspired by the positive feedback I got from all sorts of Muppet fans.

For some reason, I get a real kick out of seeing a bunch of Muppets on my shelves, even if they aren't necessarily in traditional form. Which is where the Muppet Vinylmations became my undoing. I don't live near any of the Disney parks, but I happened to take a Disney cruise where they were selling Series 1. Every day I would tell myself to just get one or two more and by the end of the week, I had cleared out their shelf. Since then, I've dug in and purchased all of Series 2 as well (I particularly dig Floyd and Janice). Even if some of them are weirdly visualized (Lew Zealand and Sweetums), oddly designed (why are Scooter’s ears above his glasses?) or just plain off (Pepe's eyes are way too small and Series 1 Piggy has far too much space between her eyes and nose), I can't help but want every one.

Without any more 3" Vinylmations to buy though, I was still left with wanting more. There were so many possibilities out there, even if they wouldn't necessarily have as much demand outside the Muppet community as the first two sets. So I decided to create my own, with the added restriction that I needed to try to take perceived printing limitations into consideration and avoid accessories (like hats). First up was Series 3, in which I envisioned the Jim Henson Muppet as the chaser. I must admit that I got quite the kick when this showed up on Muppet Wiki as an official series 3, even if it has since been removed. Check it out below!
I've since put together a Muppet Vinylmation Series 4 that I hope goes over as well as Series 3. Originally, I pictured the adult Skeeter as the chaser but once I designed '80s Robot, I knew he would be a better choice. He would be printed on a clear mold like Waldo was in Series 2. Also, I never would have imagined putting Wayne and Wanda on here (after all, I once considered them X-Muppets in the alphabet) but after seeing them prominently in trailers for The Muppets and the OK Go video, I knew it was their time to shine. You can see all of Series 4 below:
Along the way, I've also done a few other minor pieces. Drawn Together was done as part of the Threadless contest. It was inspired by the thought that since the Muppets always come together to beat the odds, it may be fun to draw them together as one image, with one character transitioning smoothly into another. It was an admitted rush job based on limited time. Doc Hopper's Other Ideas was a quick little piece based on a fun idea I had. Neither are all that great but I can't help myself--the Muppets are such inventive creations that ideas keep kicking around in my brain until they can see the page or the screen.

I guess that is a testament to Jim Henson and crew that 35 years after the launch of The Muppet Show, this motley group of characters still inspire me and many others to put pen to paper (or hand to mouse) to try to visualize our appreciation for their offbeat sensibilities, endless sense of oddball invention and unwavering sense of community. Speaking of community, be sure to check out some of the Muppet works over at www.deviantart.com. A lot of the pieces there put my minor efforts to shame. Check it out regularly--it always seems like there are more and more Muppet goodies from artists all around to inspire and entertain.

The Muppets and Me at D23, Part 1

Ryan Dosier - Oh, hiya Muppet fans! How long it's been... I see that The British Correspondent reaped his patented havoc upon you all while I was away. Well, I think it was worth it. Let's see if you agree. This past weekend I journeyed out West, and like my pioneer brothers before me, I went in search of talking mice and singing frogs and dancing ducks. Well... maybe not exactly like the pioneers. But who cares about them? I got to go to the Disney D23 Expo 2011 from Friday, August 19th until Sunday, August 21st. While I was in the neighborhood (Anaheim, California, to be specific) I got to visit the Disneyland Resort as well.

And what a time I had, let me tell you! I arrived in Anaheim on Thursday afternoon, the day before the Expo. And what is a young Muppet fan in Anaheim to do with so much time on his hands? Go to Disneyland, of course! So off I went, towards the land of mice and FastPasses, and made my way to Disney California Adventure, home of Muppet*Vision 3-D. You'd think this means loads of Muppet stuff, yes? Well, unfortunately, no. As we've learned from Disney Parks visits in recent years, there is very little new Muppet stuff to buy. They did, however, have the new Muppet Monopoly and Muppet Yahtzee for sale, but other than that it was the same old stuff: old plush dolls, a Kermit mug, a Kermit water bottle, two t-shirts, two hats, and not much else. Slightly disappointing, but not surprising enough to be completely disappointing.

However, over in Downtown Disney, the shopping district adjacent to the Disneyland Resort, they have a store called D-Street where they sell the popular Vinylmation figures, including many exclusives. Some of these exclusives were the four 9" Muppet Vinylmation figures, Muppet*Vision Kermit, Animal, Sam the Eagle, and Gonzo the Great with a 3" Camilla the Chicken. On Thursday I bought Gonzo and Camilla, and by Sunday I bought Sam as well... and I'd rather not talk about how much of a dent that put in my wallet. However, once I got them home and displayed on my shelf with the rest of the Vinylmation figures (see right), I didn't think twice. They're awesome. D-Street still has plenty of each figure and DisneyStore.com has Gonzo and Animal for sale there as well.

But the exciting part of the trip came on Friday when the Expo began. Walking into the Anaheim Convention Center for the D23 Expo is an overwhelming experience. The entire covering of the first floor is flooded with Mickey Mouse, Lightning McQueen, Donald Duck, Stitch, Goofy, and, yes, even Kermit. On the show floor I found Amy Mebberson (artist of Muppet Peter Pan and others) and James Silvani (artist of Muppet King Arthur) working their own booth where they spent the entire weekend drawing Disney for people--including myself! Check out their amazingly beautiful work (Amy on the left, James on the right) that is currently on my wall (see the picture on the right). Yup. That really is Scrooge McDuck arguing intensely with Angus McGonagle. It is heavenly.

Anyway... also on the show floor was the booth for WeLoveFine T-Shirts, a website that we've promoted multiple times on the Mindset. They were handing out, free to everyone, paper Kermit "crowns" for Expo guests to wear on their heads (see right). WeLoveFine was also selling some awesome Muppet t-shirts including Kermit in a tuxedo, Muppets 8-Bit, The Great Muppet Caper, and a women's shirt with Kermit Springsteen. Other than WeLoveFine, a couple other exhibitors were selling Muppet stuff including the upcoming makeup and nail polish lines, a preview of the 2011 Fozzie Bear Christmas ornament from Hallmark, and some new keychains featuring Kermit, Animal, and Beaker.

And then... it happened. The 2011 Disney Legends Ceremony. Hosted by Tom Bergeron (of America's Funniest Home Videos), the ceremony continues The Walt Disney Company's long-standing tradition of honoring those who contribute greatly to their success. Among this year's honorees were Regis Philbin, Anika Noni Rose (Princess Tiana), Jodi Benson (Ariel), Paige O'Hara (Belle), and, the final induction, someone named Jim Henson. It all started with Lisa Henson coming out to speak about her father, saying that her favorite Muppet had always been Rowlf. Then she introduced her brother, Brian Henson and Leslie Carrara-Rudolph, who would be performing the Jim and Jane Henson classic "I've Grown Accustomed to Your Face." It was extraordinary... and you can see it here:

Then Brian Henson said some nice things about Jim, saying that he could never do anything without making sound effects to go along with his movements. Even miniscule things like handing someone a pen, and Jim would make a goofy sound effect--a sort of "bwoooop," if you will. Then Brian and Lisa accepted the award and took a picture with the walk-around Sweetums from Disneyland, and walked off stage. Soon, the stage curtains opened, and a smaller stage rolled out carrying a piano, lots of foliage, a dog, and a frog.

Kermit the Frog and Rowlf the Dog, Jim Henson's first two superstar characters, coming out to sing and honor their friend, performer, and creator Jim Henson with his most prolific song, "Rainbow Connection." The last time that Kermit and Rowlf shared a duet was in 1979 in The Muppet Movie. It was an incredible experience. Mid-way through the song, Kermit and Rowlf asked us all to sing along with them and I can say here and now that getting a chance to sing a song with Kermit the Frog is something that I wish everyone everywhere could have the chance to do. It was the most magical moment I've experienced. Seeing Kermit and Rowlf together again at last, honoring Jim, and a Disney ceremony, was more than I ever expected. It gave me hope and happiness and everything in between.

Then came Saturday, the day of The Walt Disney Studios presentation where Disney would trot out big stars, directors, and more to show off their upcoming feature films. This included John Lasseter (head of Pixar and Disney animation), Robert Downey, Jr., Sarah Silverman, Jack MacBrayer, Jennifer Garner, Scarlet Johanson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, and Jason Segel, Kermit the Frog, and Miss Piggy. It was just as great as you'd expect. Unfortunately, cameras and cell phones were strictly forbidden from the presentation, but the following is a very accurate transcript of what happened from ComingSoon.net and EW.com...

There was a star that was late for their big D23 appearance. When Disney's head of production Sean Bailey introduced Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog and Jason Segel to talk about The Muppets at D23 this Saturday, the curtain pulled back and revealed Kermit and Segel sitting in director's chairs--but Miss Piggy was nowhere to be seen.

"You've worked on a movie with her," said Kermit when Segel pointed this out, "was she ever on time?"

"I love you, Kermit!" shouted an audience member. "I love you too!" replied Kermit.

Kermit went on to thank his fellow cast members. "Our movie stars the beautiful and talented Amy Adams! ... And the equally talented but less beautiful Jason Segel--no offense."

"I love you, Jason!" shouted another audience member. "I love you too and look forward to meeting you in person someday!" responded Segel.

Segel turned his attention to the clips of the movie they brought, saying there was a problem as they did not include Miss Piggy.

"She'll tear this whole arena apart if she finds out!" said Kermit.

"But she's not here," said Segel.

"Good point," replied Kermit as a motorcycle revved it's engine from backstage. The curtain parted again to reveal a motorcycle with none other than Miss Piggy in the sidecar, soaking in the adoration from all of her fans.

Once Kermit nervously explained that the second clip would feature "...almost all the Muppets." Piggy wasn’t too pleased. "Where’s [chairman of Walt Disney Studios] Rich Ross?" shouted Piggy as she stormed off the stage.

And then we were treated to two clips from the movie. MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD.

Clip #1:
Gary (Segel), his girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams), and their Muppet buddy Walter are driving around Bel Air, Calif. at night, trying to locate the home of Kermit. They finally find it: a deserted-looking mansion with a driveway fence that has the faces of Kermit and Miss Piggy painted on it. There’s no doorbell, so Walter asks Gary to throw him over the fence. But Gary fails to toss Walter high enough, and the fence that Walter slams into winds up being electrocuted—clearly Kermit and Piggy have encountered enough stalkers to warrant such an elaborate security system. (NOTE FROM RYAN: The Walter-shocking scene was MUCH shorter than in the trailer maybe two seconds long at most.)

Suddenly, Kermit appears on the driveway behind Gary, Mary, and Walter. As Kermit walks toward the trio, he’s silhouetted by an enormously bright white light and we hear an angelic choir singing. It’s as if God himself were approaching. But seconds later, we see the source of that blinding light and Messianic music: On the street, a bus carrying members of the Good Shepard Church Choir just happened to be driving by. Walter immediately faints.

Next, we’re inside Kermit’s home with Gary, Mary, and Walter. It’s clear that Kermit has been living in the past. During the middle of a conversation, a robot butler enters the room with a tray of outdated sodas such as New Coke and Tab. Kermit asks the robot, whom he simply calls "80s robot," to please leave and the clip ends.

Clip #2: Kermit, Rowlf, and Fozzie break off the chain around the door to the Muppet Theater. Kermit walks in slowly, nostalgically, hearing echoes of himself (Jim Henson) introducing "very special guest star, Bob Hope!!" and the announcer (Jerry Nelson) shouting "PIIIIIGS IIIIIIN SPAAAACE!" Most of the Muppets gang, plus Gary, Mary, and Walter, enter. Fozzie Bear insists that there's no way to rehearse with the theater in that condition, as Floyd Pepper remarks, "Who fired the maid service?" With offers to help from Gary, Mary, and Walter, the Muppets start cleaning. Smash cut to... Scooter sweeping. Very slowly. Cut to the Muppets gang watching as Kermit remarks, "Well this is boring." Walter looks at the group and says, "Don't you guys remember? You're the Muppets! You're supposed to do things like this with... with music!" Dr. Teeth pulls out a boom-box, presses play, and thus begins a montage set to Starship’s 1985 hit "We Built This City."

As the group cleans, Kermit starts going through his old Rolodex, calling various celebrities with the hope that they may take part in a telethon (to presumably save the Muppet Theater from being demolished by an oil tycoon). Again, Kermit is a bit behind the times. We see him cross off Molly Ringwald’s name, and he doesn’t get very far in trying locate President Jimmy Carter.

Meanwhile, the Muppets are cleaning. We see Fozzie uses Walter tied to  a pole with a sponge on his back to clean higher places--Walter is elated. Rowlf hammers away at something. Floyd removes the tarp from Animal's drum set, and Animal goes berserk. Chickens feather-dust the seats. Mary changes a lightbulb while Marvin Suggs sits in the audience sits banging away on Muppaphones. Fozzie pulls out an old picture and shows it to Link Hogthrob and Gonzo and says, "Look at this goofy 80's haircut I had back then!" the picture is revealed to be exactly the same Fozzie we see today. Rats skate across the soapy floor on old toothbrushes. The Swedish Chef incinerates some moldy talking food in a refrigerator. Scooter opens a closet and there's Beauregard sweeping away, Scooter shouts, "Beauregard!" Beau just looks up and says, "Oh, Scooter, there you are! Where has everybody been?"

The clip ends with the camera circling around the large group of Muppets (as seen in the trailer). Cut to Kermit, still in his office, looking completely exasperated and somewhat distraught. Cut back to Dr. Teeth as he stops the tape and the gang surveys the now spotless theater.

That's all we can fit in for D23 coverage in this post! Check back tomorrow for even more coverage including two Muppet performers, a Muppet fan-site operator, and much, much more!

More Vinylmation News! Ears Hat! Animal!

It seems that the Disney Parks just can't get enough of the Muppets in their wildly-popular Vinylmation series of figures. Disney recently released a new selection of their famous Ears Hats based on their Vinylmation figures. These included a pair of ears for The Muppets Vinylmation Series 2 which look a little something like this...

These Animal ears come in a very-much stylized box and include two exclusive Vinylmation figures that can only be acquired by purchasing these ears. These include a 3" Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem logo figure and a smaller Vinylmation Jr. figure with the Dr. Teeth mouth logo on it. Check them out below...

Unfortunately, the retail price for these ears is $69.99, which is nothing to spit at. (Why would you spit anyway? It's gross!) Plus, they're only available at a few stores within Disneyland and Walt Disney World. But... if you're a Vinylmation completist, these Ears and exclusive figures are something you may want to consider purchasing!

NEWS UPDATE: April 21, 2011

Our good friends over at Mighty Fine T-Shirts have alerted us to some fun new Muppet and Sesame Street t-shirts available in their store. There are three odd but cool Sesame Street Zombie t-shirts. Designed by Evan Cheng, these shirts are exclusive to Mighty Fine and include Big Bird, Elmo, and Oscar zombies declaring "B is for Brains," Bert and Ernie zombies who are frenemies of the human race, and, finally, The Count simply shouting "Blah!". These shirts are odd, indeed, there's no denying that... but they are officially licensed Sesame shirts and relatively cute, so think what you will! Mighty Fine also has a great selection of Muppet shirts and other Sesame Street shirts as well. Check out their whole stock!

Our friends working on the upcoming essay collection From Fraggle Rock to Farscape have asked us to pass along the information that deadline for entries for inclusion in the upcoming book is fast-approaching. If you would like to submit an article for the collection, simply write an essay having to do with anything from Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Dog City, and basically anything Henson-related that isn't Muppets or Sesame Street and submit your article or your idea to jennifer.garlen@gmail.com. The publishers are really hoping to develop a book that covers the wide breadth of Jim Henson's work--so have at it, Muppet fans!

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, which is now the distributor of Sesame Street DVDs, has released a press release on WBShop.com for a new DVD set they're calling "Sesame Street: The Best of Sesame Street Spoofs" and is scheduled for release on July 5. The spoofs will come in two volumes, so presumably this will be quite the collection of Sesame's greatest parodies. Here is the official DVD synopsis from Warner Bros.:

From the beginning, Sesame Street has always been known for entertaining both children and adults with spoofs on popular culture that happen to teach something too! Now the best of these segments have been culled together in a special 2 disc set for Sesame Street fans featuring classic content on disc 1 and more recent spoofs on disc 2. On Sesame Street, "Grey's Anatomy" becomes "A's Anatomy", "Mad Men" is really about teaching emotions, and "The Closer" is about "open" and "close". Fans will be nostalgic over old school classics "Hill Street Two's", "Born To Add" and "Miami Mice". This special collection will be treasured by adult fans of the series but can be enjoyed by the entire family.

After that super cool news of an awesome release from Sesame Workshop, check out this lame release from Disney: the 2012 calendar from The Muppets which is essentially a reprint of the Muppet parody calendars from 1999. Yes, only the hippest parodies for the Muppets now... Men in Black, Driving Miss Daisy... what more do you need?

While we're still on the subject of merchandise, the Vinylmation Muppets Series 2 figures are finally available to order on DisneyStore.com. The figures can be ordered individually in blind-boxes or you can order a box of blind-box figures that comes with 24 and is guaranteed to include ever figure, including the chaser (Waldo C. Graphic). Or, you can just be like me and order all 12 on eBay... (That's my collection in the picture.) (Anyone selling/giving away a Kermit figure?)

Everyone's favorite touring exhibit from The Jim Henson Legacy, Jim Henson's Fantastic World, is finally coming to New York City! Starting in July, the exhibit will find its home for the remainder of the year in Astoria, Queens where Jim Henson's work will be featured on display. For more information on the exhibit finding its place in New York, check out this article from The New York Times.

Friend of the blog and amazing creator, Lance Cardinal, was featured on Discovery Channel Canada with his incredible custom Muppet Theater playset. The video can be seen online for a limited time only, so be sure to check it out as we watch our friend Lance hit the big time!

NEWS UPDATE: April 16, 2011

The Muppets Vinylmation Series 2 were released yesterday at Disney Parks. Earlier this week images of the 9" figures from the set were released as well. The 9" figures include Gonzo and a 3" Camilla the Chicken, Sam the Eagle, Animal, and Muppet*Vision Kermit. Check out the pictures below! No release date is set for any of the 9" figures as of now.

In "who would've thunk it" news, The Muppets Kitchen with Cat Cora has been nominated for a Webby Award in the Comedy: Long Form or Series category! Angelo, Cat Cora, and those cooky Muppets are up against some fairly tough competition (30 Rock and The Office webisodes), so it's hard to say what their chances of winning are... but I like Muppets, so maybe other people will too. I would have rather seen the Webby nod go to "American Woman" or "Popcorn" but it's nice just to see the Muppets acknowledged! You can head on over to the Webby website (I know, right?) and cast your vote!

This past Wednesday, David Hoberman, producer of The Fighter, appeared at Suffolk University to give a talk. Now, normally, this wouldn't be a terribly exciting experience for us Muppet fans... except that David Hoberman is also the producer of The Muppets. Oh, and he brought Kermit the Frog (and some Steve Whitmire fellow) along with him. The fine (lucky) folks who were in attendance at Suffolk posted a great article about the appearance along with some fun quotes from Kermit and Boston.com, who broke the story, has an article with a little bit more information as well. (Thanks to our friends at ToughPigs.com for finding this and not caring when we steal it!)

Muppet fan and friend of the blog, Jonathan Melville, has a fantastic interview with Muppet producer Martin Baker on his blog Reel Scotland. It's a fun little interview, very informative, and provides a great preview for the upcoming Muppets, Music, and Magic event in England. Thanks to Johnathan for sharing this great interview with us!

Last week, we reported that Craig Ferguson and Joel McHale will be appearing in the upcoming Sesame Street Season 42. Well, there's even more celebrities lining up for Season 42 including basketball players Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks, along with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Rico Rodriguez ("I filmed a segment for an episode of Sesame Street! I will post details & pictures very soon!"), and Sofia Vergara of Modern Family (that's like a third of the cast). E! Online also posted a fantastic video of Sofia Vergara hanging out with Elmo:

NEWS UPDATE: April 8, 2011

Two of The Muppet Mindset's favorite celebrities, Craig Ferguson (of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson) and Joel McHale (of Community and The Soup), are joining the ranks of Sesame Street Season 42 guest stars. On Wednesday, Ferguson tweeted saying, "Filming a segment for @sesamestreet with the artist that is Elmo today. Very honored. #finallymadeitinshowbusiness" and later posted a picture of himself with three Sesame chickens (seen at right). And earlier this morning, McHale tweeted, "Shot a bit for @sesamestreet yesterday. It's a dream come true to be on that show although I'm always a little hesitant about nude scenes." I don't know about you, but I'm thrilled that these two hilarious guys are getting to work on Sesame Street! Can't wait for Season 42 now... (As if I couldn't before.)

On Tuesday, The Insider online posted a video with everyone's favorite amphibian, Michigan J. Frog Kermit the Frog from 1989. In the video, Kermit talks Sesame Street's 20th anniversary (which, at the time, was timely). It's a fun little video and a great showcase of both Jim and Kermit's interviewing abilities. Gosh, I love that frog!

Our good friends at ToughPigs (all good friends except Hennes) have posted two brand new (albeit very old) videos from their adventures at the 2010 New York City Comic Con. The videos may be old, but they feature two good friends of The Muppet Mindset, Jesse Blaze Snider (writer, Muppet Snow White) and James Silvani (artist, Muppet King Arthur, Darkwing Duck). Snider proves himself as a huge Muppet geek (he talks about Beard from The Jim Henson Hour!)--and even mentions The Muppet Mindset!--and Silvani is always a treat (hey, he brought us Angus McGonagle, after all) so be sure to check out the videos!

Finally, in our continuing coverage of the upcoming Muppets Vinylmation Series 2, the official Disney Vinylmation website has posted 360 degree turns of eleven of the 3" figures (all but the chaser figure, Waldo). Still curious about what the Waldo figure looks like? Well, curio no longer! (Curio? Sure.) Look to the right where you'll see the Waldo figure, with removable hat! I love the Waldo figure... most of his body is clear, which is really, really cool. But, if you know anything about Vinylmation, you know that the chaser is near-impossible to find... so if you manage to pull a Waldo out of one of those boxes, hang on to it because I might want to steal it.

The Muppets Vinylmation Series 2 will be released at Disney Parks and online at DisneyStore.com on April 15th!

The Muppets Vinylmation Series 2 Lineup Revealed!

Last week, as you'll recall, we posted our predictions for the upcoming Vinylmation The Muppets Series 2 set to be released at Disney Parks and Resorts (as well as online) on April 15th. Well, as has become custom around here (at least if you're asking Joe Hennes), we were mostly wrong! The fine folks over at Vinylnation.net have exclusively revealed the lineup for The Muppets Series 2. Let's take a look at the surprises that we never would have guessed!

3" Figures
  • Dr. Teeth
  • Janice
  • Floyd Pepper
  • Zoot
  • Pigs in Space Miss Piggy
  • Link Hogthrob
  • Dr. Julius Strangepork
  • Penguin
  • Pepe the King Prawn
  • Scooter
  • Lew Zealand
  • Waldo (Chaser Figure)
9" Figures
  • Gonzo the Great (with 3" Camilla the Chicken)
  • Muppet*Vision Kermit (previously known as "Tourist Kermit")
  • Sam Eagle
  • Animal
Okay, so I guess we weren't all that wrong. But seriously, who would have guessed we'd see Link and Strangepork and Lew Zealand included? That's super, super cool. I also love the fact that the Disney folks trust this line enough to do well that they're including 9" figures also. The 9" figures usually have a much smaller release size (e.g., only 1,000) and usually cost about $40. So... my wallet may hate it, but I absolutely love it and I must get the 9" Gonzo at least (but I'll probably get all of them... darn it)!

There's been a breaking piece of news in the Vinylmation case this morning as the world's bestest Muppet fan, FrogFan76, has posted a brand new YouTube video with exclusive pictures of all of The Muppets Vinylmation Series 2 3" figures (except Waldo, the Chaser)! Check out the fantastic video and marvel at the awesome designs below!

This just solidifies the fact that I must have these! Especially Lew Zealand. And Pepe. And Floyd. And... yeah, all of them. Thanks to our friend FrogFan76 for this AWESOME YouTube sensation!

Once again, The Muppets Vinylmation Series 2 will be released on April 15th.

The Muppets Vinylmation Series 2 Update and Possible Release Date

Our friends over at Destination Vinylmation have some great info on the upcoming Series 2 set of The Muppets Vinylmation available at the Disney Parks and online. Their post reveals the current planned release date for the set, April 15th and also pictures of the figures that are confirmed for inclusion so far. They include...

DR. TEETH (new picture)

DR. TEETH (same figure, different angle; provided by Daniel Moss)
 FLOYD PEPPER
JANICE
SAM EAGLE
Other figures, including GONZO and SCOOTER have also been confirmed (sans pictures) by Vinylmation.net. Every Vinylmation series contains 12 figures, so logically The Muppets Series 2 will include a dozen new figure designs as well. Six are confirmed, what others can we expect? Well... here's one Muppet fan's theories:
  • ANIMAL - It stands to reason that we'll see Animal in this wave, not only to tie together the Electric Mayhem, but also because he's one of the most popular Muppets and not including him probably just isn't an option.
  • ZOOT - Releasing an entire group of Electric Mayhem figures in this series seems to be the goal, so logically Zoot will be included. I hope the figure has Zoot's famous saxophone painted on.
  • PEPE - While they're busy including popular characters in Series 2, they might as well toss in Pepe. He's really the only other semi-major character not yet included in this or the previous series.
  • PENGUINS or CHICKENS - Two definitions of Muppets in feathered fowl form... it stands to reason that one of them will eventually be included. One would think that with the penguin orchestra of Muppet*Vision 3D we would see penguins... but who knows?
  • WALDO C. GRAPHIC - I don't really know how the Vinylmation artists would pull this one off... but considering Waldo is such a huge part of Muppet*Vision and the Vinylmation are sold at the Disney Parks, it would make a lot of sense to include Waldo.
  • TOURIST KERMIT - My prediction for the chaser figure of this line can also be seen in the above image with the Scooter prototype. It makes sense to have another Kermit in the line... he's sort of popular. Or so I hear.
Well... only time will tell what The Muppets Vinylmation Series 2 will hold. Hopefully we will find out on April 15th, the date which both Destination Vinylmation and Stitch Kingdom have claimed as the release date for the series. I don't know about you... but I'll be hovering over DisneyStore.com that whole day to buy some!

And, as always, check out The Muppet Mindset for more news on Muppet Vinylmation as soon as we get it!
