searching for a summer dress

It appears that my recent explosion in size is dovetailing ever so neatly with a heat wave here in North Carolina. The result is, of course, sheer discomfort. What's driving me further over the brink is a lack of cute and comfortable pregnancy dresses. Like everyone else - I'll make do by hitting the maternity sections of Target, the Gap, and Old Navy, but must every one of their summer dresses feel exactly the same? Like a brightly colored night gown made out of cheap cotton? Is is wrong to want to wear a dress that keeps me cool during this summer and actually looks cool too? I don't think that's asking for too much. I just need one. Just one. (And even though I'd rather go sleeveless in an NC summer - I'd love to grab up that Mama.licious dress from asos but, sadly, my size is sold out and my search must go on.)

Of course, don't get me wrong...

Though my last post may have expressed a certain anxiety surrounding the hoopla of getting married, I am still very much a girl with ideas of what she wants her wedding to look like and a greediness for all that is pretty. Just in terms of what to wear - here are just a few things that I've bookmarked...

What's black and white and striped all over?

It's the one thing I am lusting after for my summer wardrobe this year... a black and white striped dress in the style of any these old Hollywood classics...

I love this image of Jean Seberg from the French classic film "Breathless":

But doesn't this "Sahara Striped Dress" read like a stripey dress for the modern pixie?

I've long been in love with the cowl neck on Marilyn's sweet little summer dress:

Of course, I am willing to compromise. I would be willing to add a striped dress into my summer wardrobe in something other than black and white. I mean, I can bite the bullet and go for blue and white stripes too as in, I don't know, this super cute dress if someone forced it on me...
