A find

I first saw this great shelf/cabinet thingamob in a post on design*sponge and followed the link to the source, ladybird and fellow, because I had to find out more about it.

I love the look of it and the fact it is multipurpose (the car display kills me).
Turns out it was a $5 garage sale find that was painted black (the "display" portion is a mail sorter!)- what a cool way to repurpose this piece.

I wish I stumbled upon such possibility for a finski....

haunted by a black leather couch

"Sunken" by remember moments

I've got a bit of news - in the new year I will be packing up my apartment and moving in with my sweet and wonderful boyfriend.

What is exciting about this is that he has a great house, some fun art, and is open to redecorating his place (oh, and I enjoy his company - I guess that's a good thing he's got going on too...)
What is not so exciting, you ask? His black leather couch.

Yes, it belonged to his grandfather, is in great shape, and does not necessarily scream 90s bachelor pad, but it still feels like it'll be a challenge to "warm up" and decorate around (with my fondness for the color orange - the living room could easily start to creep into... well... creepiness).

Apartment Therapy has a piece on how to "Decorate Around a Dark Leather Sofa" which gives me hope as do these images where people have actually made the black leather work. All I have to do now is hire one of them... le sigh.

catalog of (card) catalogs

There are not too many pieces of furniture that are musts for me. I like a lot of different things, but I've long desired two specific pieces of furniture. First, I've always wanted a worn, brown leather old man chair. The boyfriend, it turns out, had been keeping his grandfather's old leather chair hidden in his junk room - completely unaware of its perfection nor my lust for it. It is now "visiting" my apartment and gives me yet another reason to hold on to the bf.

The second piece of furniture that I've always wanted is a card catalog. The beat-up quality of the wood, the little drawers perfect for compulsive organizers - yes, I know it is considered hipster decor and not entirely practical (how many drawers do you need for buttons?), but, boy, do I love the look.
