Led Zeppelin-a-Day: "The Wanton Song"

"The Wanton Song", Physical Graffiti
The captivating churning of "The Wanton Song"'s sensuous riff. Full volume, top skill, utterly contagious energy. If there is one thing these guys could do, it was translate a mood onto record. It seems oozing sensuality onto a slab of vinyl came quite naturally to them. Page fucking dominates, no contest - though I'll say Plant sounds rather scrumptious as well. Page is sharp and compelling, with that riff screaming, "Listen to me now. Get up and move." And his exquisite use of backwards echo and a Leslie... The way he slithers into that powerful solo, and momentously hops back into the track's initial momentum. Mystical and powerful, this track displays prime Page. Precisely why Presence and In Through the Out Door don't even compare.
